Seventy-five people met to honor our local firefighters at the first-ever Firefighter’s Ball at The Oaks Country Club on March 5th.
It was the first event of its kind, whereas in the past the firefighters have held fundraisers, this was a formal ball, held in order to award the men of exceptional service for the past year.
Among the first of the commendations to be awarded was a special recognition of seven of Sapulpa’s Bravest who performed quick actions that saved the life of a beloved family member.
Chief Vickrey—still new to the role after the retiring of David Taylor in 2021— gave a short explanation of the reason for the recognition:
“On the evening of February 19, 2022 Ladder 1, with Captain Mylum Ache, Firefighter Greg Adams and Firefighter Ben Ludiker, along with Engine 4, with Captain Levi Coats, Firefighter Daniel Mock and Firefighter Tyler Kragel with Battalion Chief Forrest Fields were dispatched to a woman having trouble breathing,” Vickrey said.
“Before arrival, they were made aware that they were headed to a beloved family member of Sapulpa Firefighters. When crews arrived on the scene, they quickly went into action utilizing several specialized skills. The actions taken by these men on that day without a doubt played a role in saving the patient’s life,” he said. “For their combined efforts on this day, I am proud to present them with an award of commendation.”
The awards continued with a common theme: dedication. Whether on the job or at home, multiple firefighters displayed extraordinary levels of dedication to their careers, to their community, and to advance their own knowledge in order to serve Sapulpa better.
