Steven McClenathan is $500 richer this Christmas, after winning the final ticket to the 2022 Sapulpa Main Street Jingle Bells Sweepstakes—or to hear him tell it, his wife is $500 richer.
“I’m going to put it in her stocking,” he told Sapulpa Herald at the Main Street office when he arrived to pick up his wife’s check on Friday afternoon. “I’m not even going to tell her I won. I’m just going to give it to her. I just hope she doesn’t read the paper!”
McClenathan, who bought the ticket at Farmers Feed, almost missed his chance at making his wife’s Christmas a little merrier, after the first few tickets weren’t anywhere close to what he was holding.
“I only had two numbers on my paper. I had all the tickets in between those two numbers,” he said. “After the first two winners, I almost threw my tickets away.”
He started to give them to someone, and they told him to hang onto the tickets, that he might get lucky the next week.
The advice would turn out to be prophetic. McClenathan saw the winning number on Facebook and realized he’d won.
“I couldn’t believe I almost gave those tickets away!” he said.
His wife will certainly be happy he didn’t.
