FiberLink, a spinoff of AirLink, which currently provides wireless internet to rural areas in and around Sapulpa, is in the preliminary phase of providing 1Gb fiber-optic service to the home in Kellyville and neighborhoods in Sapulpa.

Unlike other providers installing aerial lines, FiberLink buries the fiber-optic cable in the ground, making it impervious to inclement weather. Each fiber-optic cable is placed in a plastic conduit and contains 288 individual optical fibers.

Two optical fiber lines can serve 200 homes thanks to a technology called Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM), which simply means different colors of laser light are used in one optical fiber to carry many signals.

Another advantage to FiberLink is something called “distributed architecture,” where instead of a central office distributing the signal to the end users, there are a number of individual ‘hubs’ from which the signal is disseminated. This allows for easier expansion, as well as redundancy in case of a failure somewhere in the line.

Airlink CEO Mike Whelan pointed out that the type of technology used to go to the home or business allows an individual customer to be the only user on the line, thus not encountering reduced speeds, when multiple users go online at the same time. Homes in the Gardner Park and Pleasant View subdivisions will soon have access to FiberLink fiber-optic service as well as parts of the town of Kellyville, and within a matter of months, the entire town of Kellyville will be served. No government funds are being used for this project.

Whelan touted the strong customer service support his company offers, “You will get someone live…That is an advantage.” FiberLink offers 1Gb download and 100Mb uploads with no data cap, and is priced at $99 a month. For more information, call 918-853-5994.
