Family of stabbed teen asking for help with funeral expenses

The family of the 15-year-old teenager who was the victim of a fatal stabbing on Saturday, July 15th has released the name of the boy who died, and are asking for assistance with funeral costs as they deal with the difficulty surrounding the situation.

The teen, who has been identified as Aaron Lett, is described as “the epitome of a happy, outgoing, and joyful teenager” in the GoFundMe account created by his older sister Chrissy Lett.

“At just 15 years old, Aaron’s life was cut short by the hands of someone he trusted, someone he called his cousin—a person who was supposed to be a source of protection and care,” Lett said on the page’s description.

Aaron Lett suffered multiple stab wounds at the hands of 57-year-old Richard King, who has since been arrested on charges of first-degree murder.

King was previously reported as Aaron’s uncle, but family and friends of the family have confirmed that King was actually Lett’s older cousin.

Details about what caused the situation are sparse, but police have confirmed that Aaron Lett and Richard King got into an argument outside near the intersection of N Mann Street and W Johnson Avenue.

Sapulpa Police Captain Mike Sole told Sapulpa Herald that at some point, King went into a residence near the scene and returned with a knife. Shortly after, the altercation turned physical, and Lett was stabbed several times. King also stabbed another teenager who was present —a 16-year-old who is reportedly King’s son. Both teens were taken to St. Francis hospital, where Lett died of his injuries. The 16-year-old was treated and released.

Now, the family is asking for help in paying for a funeral they say never should have happened.

“No family should ever have to bear the burden of burying their child, especially under such heart-wrenching circumstances,” said Chriss Lett.

Anyone wanting to help the Lett family can contribute to the campaign by scanning the QR Code with their phone. The family is asking those that want to help but can’t do so financially contribute by sharing the GoFundMe on their social media accounts. “Spreading the word is just as valuable,” Chrissy Lett said.

“We want to give Aaron the proper celebration of life he deserves – a memorial that truly reflects the light he brought into this world and the positive impact he had on those around him.”
