Fairgrounds Barn to receive updates

The Fairgrounds northern multi-purpose barn is receiving a facelift to match the storefronts of the other barns there. A bid from LH construction for $37,600 was accepted as the lowest bid – but there’s no timeline on the project yet.

According to Jonathan Kieffer, a fairgrounds representative, the grounds are booked every day in April except for two —one of those being Easter—making it difficult to even begin work. However, once the project does get underway it’s estimated to take only about a week, and Kieffer guesses it’ll begin sometime in the beginning of May.

The other two companies that bid on the project were Vexus Contracting and C. Rash Construction, but one bidder didn’t attend the walkthrough, and both bids were about $10,000 over the chosen one. Newt Stephens questioned whether or not the fair board wanted to add a contingency just in case something unexpected happens so they don’t have to reappear before the board asking for more. Kieffer agreed to add a 10% contingency to the approved amount just in case.
