Eric Maddox to speak at new school year assembly

Sapulpa Public School held its July board of education meeting on Monday evening.

The brief meeting held during the last month of summer break was at Sapulpa middle school rather than Washington Administrative Building due to the building sustaining roof damage from the May tornado that swept through the city.

SPS Superintendent Rob Armstrong gave opening remarks that principals report in two weeks and that new teachers report to duty on Aug. 7.

To prepare students and faculty for the new school year a special back to school assembly is planned for Aug. 12.

The assembly is scheduled to have 1990 Sapulpa High School graduate Eric Maddox as a guest speaker to help kick off the new school year.

Maddox is most famously known for the interrogation that lead to the operation code-named “Red Dawn,” that lead to the capture and execution of former President of Iraq Saddam Hussein in 2003.

He is also the author of ‘Mission: Black List #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein – As Told by the Soldier Who Masterminded His Capture,’ in 2008.

“We are very excited to have him come and help us kick off the school year,” Armstrong said.
