London Dobson, the contender for incumbent Carla Gunn’s Ward 2 seat, is now officially endorsing Gunn for the seat, Sapulpa Times has learned.
In a phone conversation on Monday morning, Dobson said she was initially excited about the possibility of serving on the Sapulpa City Council.
“But as I began to sit and listen to the problems that people were having, I realized that I couldn’t give Sapulpa what it deserved,” she said.
Dobson says her time is taken up with running two businesses, and that she didn’t think it would be fair to the community for her to take the position but then be unable to meet the time commitments.
Sapulpa City Councilors not only meet for several hours twice a month, they frequently have committees to attend and other meetings to arrange, outside of the work required to take care of their ward. “I just really feel that Carla Gunn would be the better candidate for for position,” Dobson said.
Dobson did not file in time to have her name removed from the ballot for the upcoming April election next week, so her name will still appear, but she has agreed to a public statement that she is endorsing Gunn and is no longer seeking to be a Sapulpa City Councilor, at least for now. “I might try again in a couple of years, when some other things in my life have calmed down,” she said.
The upcoming election will be on Tuesday, April 5th.
