Scholarship Committee Chairperson Lynne Belcher introduced scholarship winner Divinety Johnson (no relation to County Chair Stan Johnson).
Ms. Johnson was one of two recipients of the CCDEM Scholarship, but was not present at the April 20 Creek County Democratic Party meeting in Drumright, at which Hope Barton was awarded a scholarship.
Belcher began by reading Ms. Johnson’s bio:
“Scholarship recipient Divinety Johnson is a 2023 graduate of Bristow High School. She will graduate with a 3.96 GPA, including her Advanced Placement classes and concurrent enrollment in university classes. She has a perfect attendance record all the way through school, a significant accomplishment, according to her teachers.
Divinety’s AP English teacher says ‘Challenge is not something that Divinety takes lightly as she holds herself to exceptionally high standards.’ In her school, Divinety is a member of the Varsity Cheer Leadership Council, was a captain on Bristow’s Academic Team, and has competed at the advanced level in OSSAA Speech and Debate Tournaments. She is an accomplished athlete and scholar.
Divinety is a member of the National Honor Society, the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, the Principal’s Honor Roll, and was a participant in the Oklahoma House of Representatives Page Program. She also was a member of the Bristow Girls Track Team, earning the distinction of shot Put Conference Champion of 2022. As well as being a Walmart employee for almost two years, she contributed more than 100 hours of community service last year alone.
Divinety comes from a large family, being one of ten children. One of her teachers says she has a ‘work ethic that few young people have.’ Though her ultimate goal is a law degree (she has wanted to be a lawyer since her freshman year), she plans to do an undergraduate major in sociology at either the University of Oklahoma or Suffolk University (in Boston, Massachusetts). Her teachers believe she will excel at whatever she pursues.”
After the bio was read, it was established that Ms. Johnson will attend Suffolk University.
Ms. Belcher said; “It is an honor for me to award this scholarship to Divinety Johnson on behalf of Creek County Democrats.”
Belcher then presented Ms. Johnson with a $1,500 scholarship.
