(SPS) — Demolition began on the future site for the Westside Baseball and Softball complex, less than 24 hours after the Sapulpa Public Schools Board of Education approved a demolition team and a construction management firm to oversee the project.
The new baseball and softball fields and indoor practice facility are part of Chieftain Stronger Bond 2023, which was passed by voters in September.
The site, formerly the youth baseball practice fields, is being demolished by K&T Trucking & Site Clearing Inc., to make way for brand-new SPS baseball and softball fields which will both be equipped with artificial turf. Along with an indoor practice facility, the complex will include a concession stand, locker rooms, restrooms, office space, bleachers, and plenty of parking.
Once the demolition is complete, D.C. Bass & Sons Construction Company will work with Reed Architecture and Interiors to begin building on the site. Construction could start in short order, with athletic teams likely able to utilize the new facilities by the Spring of 2025.
Demolition crews are clearing trees, heavy light poles, fencing and buildings to prepare the site for construction. The process is expected to move quickly.
This is an expansion of Westside, which is already home to Chieftain soccer, cross country, and track. The baseball-softball project was part of Proposition 1 of Chieftain Stronger Bond 2023. The resolution calls for $23 million to be used toward Westside as well as new football locker rooms and office space at Collins Stadium.
