County Notebook: Commissioners consider salary changes

By Sapulpa Times Staff Reports

Board of County Commissioners: The BOCC is considering changing the salary scale for certain categories of County highway employees. District #1 Commissioner Newt Stephens noted that, currently, the salaries for the Laborer 1 and Operator 2 positions are the same, although the Operator 2 position requires a Commercial Driver’s License. He believes an employee who has taken the steps to obtain a CDL deserves more pay.

Stephens’s suggestion was to strike the Operator 2 salary and revert those employees to an Operator 1 salary, and to make the salaries for those with CDLs on par with those with a Welder/Mechanic position.
Commissioners for Districts #2 and #3, Warner and Smith, respectively, will review these numbers to see how the changes would affect their departments and the issue will be revisited at next week’s meeting.

Sapulpa Planning Commission: Amara Learning Academy, LLC was unanimously recommended for approval to the City Council by the Sapulpa Planning Commission for a Special Use Permit to operate a childcare center in a Commercial General-zoned district at the SPC’s Tuesday evening meeting.

Owners Tabitha and Edwin Oriewo own the building at 210 South Park (south of the southwest corner of Thompson and Park), which has always been used as a daycare, but has been vacant for at least 12 months, hence the need for an SUP.

This application will be heard in front of the full City Council at its meeting on Monday, August 2nd.
