Sapulpa residents looking to the city for a place to dump or drop off limbs or debris from Monday’s storms will need to look elsewhere, according to city officials.
In an email asking if the City was providing a designated location for debris drop-off, City Project Manager Michael Russell gave a succinct reply: “There is not any place to dump from the last storm.”
The City of Sapulpa has stepped in to help with fallen limbs and debris before; why not now? In short, it depends on the situation.
In 2019, after two F-1 tornadoes struck Sapulpa, the City declared a formal “State of Emergency,” which allowed the city to operate on a case-by-case basis and enter the property of homeowners in order to help remove tree limbs for disposal. As stated then, public funds cannot normally be used to assist with privately owned situations, except in the case of a state of emergency.
Sapulpa escaped the worst of the storms on Monday, given that there were 7 possible tornadoes in the state, none in Creek County.
Another round of rain passed through the area today, but nothing severe in Sapulpa. More severe weather is expected this weekend, however, with a possible 3 inches of rain expected through Memorial Day.
