An update from the City of Sapulpa Facebook Page confirms that Dewey Street will remain closed through the holidays, but could reopen as early as the first week of January.

In the statement, the City outlines the final items needed to “ensure the area is safe, accessible and finished to the highest standard.” Those items include:

  • Moving the large gray planters closer to the street.
  • Installing permanent handrails at the “loading zones” on Dewey, replacing the benches there now.
  • Repairing certain parts of the concrete.
  • Completing the roadway striping.
  • General cleanup and street sweeping.

The City said the landscaping contractor handling the planter relocation is out for the remainder of the year due to the holidays and will return to the project on January 5th.

The City also said there was good news: all the construction fencing is now gone, and Dewey is fully open to pedestrian traffic.

“Visitors can move freely along the corridor and enjoy downtown with ease. Convenient parking is available in nearby parking lots, along with newly-painted on-street parking on surrounding side streets,” the statement said.

As 2025 gives way to 2026 and the upcoming Route 66 Centennial, the City reminds everyone that “progress continues and brighter days are ahead.”

“We look forward to welcoming the community to a refreshed downtown soon.”
