At the Monday, April 3rd City Council meeting, Mayor Craig Henderson joined the rest of the city council and the others in attendance in congratulating the Sapulpa High School Ping Pings for their second national championship in February.
“The 2023 Ping Ping championship team brought great honor, not only to themselves, but also to their school, families, and the entire community of Sapulpa,” the Mayor said, reading from a proclamation created just for this event.
For the second year in a row, the Pings brought home two national titles in two dances: Small Varsity High Kick and Large Varsity Team Performance, which is a dance routine that combines four dance genres Pom, Jazz, Kick, and Hip Hop.
In addition to winning the two national titles, the Ping Pings were asked to participate in a dance battle for “bragging rights”—one of only three teams asked to participate in a group of over 60 teams.
They are coached by Molly Heritage and Jennifer Ruetlinger. There are 22 Ping Ping team members, including eight seniors, three juniors, six sophomores, and five freshmen. Five seniors were named to the OSDTDA All-State Team, and one senior was named to the East Region Team. Pings head coach Molly Heritage, who has coached the team for five years, was also recognized as OSDTDA’s East Region Coach of the Year.
