The Western Heritage Days festival at Bristow featured something the town has likely not seen in a hundred years, if ever—a live cattle drive, right down the main street of downtown, made even more interesting because that street was Historic Route 66.
The line of longhorns shuffling through downtown Bristow was a sight to behold, but it was only the start as the rest of the parade included horseback riders as young as four, trick riders, and a beautiful team of Clydesdale horses pulling an old-fashioned-looking stagecoach.
In downtown Bristow, you’d not only find vendors, carnival rides and plenty of food, but there was live music and other entertainment, including a petting zoo and pony rides, or the chance to meet the “World’s Tallest Cowboy,” who strode through the crowds, who couldn’t help but look up at him.
Another highlight was the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard, which not only featured a fully-dressed old-western chuck wagon and army guard in the parade but were hanging around to be a part of the rodeo Saturday evening.
