Adam Raymond Mason, of Bristow, pleaded guilty last week in federal court to murdering his five-year-old daughter in 2020.
Mason, who was 29 at the time of the murder, told investigators that he “believed his daughter was controlled by witchcraft,” and that he punched his daughter, drowned her in the bathtub, and then put her in a creek bed, where he set her body on fire.
According to court documents filed by the FBI, the girl’s mother had last spoken to her on August 25th and became concerned when Mason would not let him speak to her the following day. Creek County deputies performed a welfare check at Mason’s residence and found the burned body of a child. They found Mason one mile west of his residence and took him into custody.
The girl was due to start kindergarten the week after her death.
Mason was charged with first-degree murder on August 28th, and a joint investigation was started by the FBI, ATF, Creek County Sheriff’s Office, and Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Tribal Police.
Last week, Mason pled guilty to second-degree murder. He will be sentenced at a later date.
