Borgstadt Confident in a Better Football Team This Year

Chieftain Head Football Coach Robert Borgstadt is expecting better performances on the field this year. Shouldn’t be too hard—the bar is set pretty low.

The Chieftains only had one win last season, suffering nine losses to close out a season that definitely could’ve been better.

Borgstadt attributes the lousy record last season to a combination of a young team and the fact that he didn’t get to start working with his team until late April the year before. That kind of introduction meant proper training in the off-season was all but impossible.

That’s all in the past now, though. Going into his second year as head coach, Borgstadt is confident that his players are ready to clean house, so long as they can work as a team and “execute on the little things,” he says.

The Chieftains get their first chance to show their improved skills in tonight’s scrimmage against Skiatook, who carried a 5-5 season last year.

Unfortunately, their first official game next week won’t be at home. They’re facing off against Duncan on their turf, to a team that they barely lost to last year. Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time.

Sapulpa’s first home game is against Choctaw (5-5 in 2016) on September 1st at 7pm.
