The Sapulpa FFA Booster Club held its second annual Boots & BBQ fundraiser Saturday evening, April 14th, at the Creek County Fairgrounds Commercial Building.
Ticket holders were served massive amounts of barbecued meat, plentiful portions of side orders, and ice tea. FFA Booster Club President, Eric Lee, said volunteers cooked fifty pounds of bologna, forty pounds of sausage and eighteen pork butts, four of which were auctioned off.
Ag Teacher Dylan Johnston told the Sapulpa Herald that FFA students today study a broad scope of subjects: “Everything from welding to food science.”
Attendees bid on silent auction items before the live auction began at 7 p.m. There were a plethora of products donated by local businesses, local citizens, and the FFA Ag Mechanics who specialize in welding.
There were a variety of hand-made metal planters in the shape of various animals, all crafted by the FFA Ag Mechanics, as well as two custom-made metal fire pits fabricated by the FFA members.
Perhaps the most eye-catching fire pit was the OSU fire pit with Pistol Pete, The OSU logo, and the Words: Oklahoma State University cut into the metal.
Cherry Trucking donated a load of crusher rock delivered within 25 miles and a load of sandy loam.
Hilti donated a four-piece power tools set costing of a hammer drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw, and a work light.
FFA member and welder, Connor Lott donated five hours of labor, Phyllis Hale donated banana bars and Neiman-Marcus bars, and Dondra White House donated coconut cream pie, which by the way, went for a whopping $175.
Burggraf Roofing donated twenty tickets, four parking passes, and access to a suite at a Driller’s baseball game.
Enlow tractor auction, All Season Feeders, Ruthless Game Calls, and Farmers Feed donated items such as deer feelers, deer calls and gift certificates.
Reed Architecture donated a forty-piece set of Frankoma Christmas plates dating back to 1965.
Go Bob Pipe donated a mineral feeder, Snake Creek Shooting Range donated a one-year family membership, and I Shine car detail donated a car detailing package.
The most valuable product in the live auction was a $12,000 five-ton HVAC installation donated by Integrated HVAC and the Lenox Corporation.
Thanks to Josh Enlow’s impressive auctioneering skills and the generosity of the bidders, the live auction garnered $15,740. The silent auction brought in $1,599, bringing the total amount made that night to $17,399.
According to FFA Booster Club Treasurer Kathy Lott the money will be used primarily for students to attend conventions, plus an assortment of school activities: “We are going to assist with sending the kids to the State FFA Convention, and this year we are sending twenty kids to the State FFA Convention. We try to attend the National FFA Convention whenever we can. We went this (school)year, I am not sure if we will get to go next year.
“We will sponsor kids to go to the Washington Leadership Conference. Last year we got to sponsor two kids, and this year we have one student going.”
Ms. Lott said the Booster Club also buys classroom supplies for different school teams.
“This year we purchased items for the shooting sports team. Some of that money will be used to purchase things for the Ag Mechanics Team.”
This year’s fundraiser exceeded the amount raised last year by $6,339, hopefully next year’s event will continue the trend.
