American Abstract & Title has been sold

American Abstract & Title, in business in Sapulpa since the late-1970s, has been sold, according to a statement from former owners Jeff and Kay Sparks. The sale is significant in the sense that it represents something of a full circle from its early days.

Jeff Sparks, left, and Kay Sparks, stand with Jim Cichon of Smith Brothers/FirsTitle outside the former American Abstract office.

“We’re very excited to formally announce Smith Brothers Abstract/FirsTitle recently acquired American Abstract and Title,” the statement said.

Bill Cichon, Bob Nale, Tim Hershberger, and Chester Wilson officially opened the office in 1979. Bill’s son Jim Cichon, is a part of the acquisition team as President of Smith Brothers Abstract. “American Abstract has come full circle back to Cichon after 33 years,” Kay Sparks said.

AllFirst, the umbrella company for Smith Brothers and FirsTitle, has over 500 offices including Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and New Mexico. “We opened our first office in Arkansas in February,” Jim Cichon said.

Cichon says it means the world to him to be involved with American Abstract again. “I remember busting up concrete in the parking lot of the old location (on Park Street between Dewey and Hobson—now Bennett’s Tattoo Shop) as a kid,” he said.

Over the years, American Abstract & Title grew to include a closing office in Glenpool, which opened in 2013. “From 1989, our business consisted of only abstracting and title insurance in Creek County,” Kay Sparks said. “Expanding our business into the Escrow closings opened the door to every county in the state of Oklahoma.”

Both Sapulpa and Glenpool offices were included in the acquisition, as well as all the employees. Jeff and Kay Sparks say they couldn’t be happier about how smooth the transition has been, and they believe that the new company will operate “with the same service and integrity we always strived to provide.”

“God has blessed us more than we could’ve ever thought about,” Kay said. “We truly give Him all the glory.”
