Accidental shooting at Bridge Creek Apartments sends 14-year-old boy to hospital

Sapulpa Police responded to a possible shooting at Bridge Creek Apartments at about 3:30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sapulpa Police, a 24-year-old woman, who babysits several of the children in the complex, had been dealing with another “troublemaking” juvenile that was known to “come around and cause problems.” The woman heard the juvenile was near the complex and came downstairs with a .380 semi-automatic pistol. She said that her intent was “to scare the kid,” but when she got downstairs, the troublemaker was nowhere to be found.

The woman decided to unload her pistol downstairs, rather than take it back upstairs. When she did so, the gun discharged, striking the 14-year-old boy in the leg. Police said the boy knew the woman, but couldn’t confirm that he was one of the children she babysits. They did not think he was the troublemaker the woman went downstairs for.

Police say the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the lower part of his left leg and is expected to make a full recovery. The woman was not arrested today, but her case would be forwarded to the District Attorney, where they will decide if she’s charged.

The Bridge Creek Apartments are formerly known as the Cherry Hill Apartments. Sapulpa Times will be doing a full story on the new direction for the recently-purchased complex in a future article.
