Walter E. Griggs was born in Graham, Texas on May 31, 1924 to Walter and Jettie Griggs. He transitioned to his Heavenly Home September 6, 2018.

Walter was the youngest of two siblings. He grew up in in Albany, Texas, working as a butcher in his dad’s grocery store. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Army Air Force where he served as an airplane mechanic and taught pilots to fly. On February 18, 1945 he married Maxine L. Mims. They had four children. After completing his military service, he worked in the oil fields. In 1958 moved his family to Sapulpa, continuing his oil field work. He and partner Eddie Genzer started Coment Cementers. After retiring he enjoyed playing golf, cards and dominos with friends. He also enjoyed his morning coffee with his buddies at Café USA and meeting with the “Bozo’s.” He loved his church and served as a greeter. He was known as the candy man. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for fifty years.

Walter was preceded in death by brother Bradley Griggs, wife Maxine and son Mac. He is survived by three daughters, Judy Fields, Nancy Buff and LuAnn Fife; one son, Matthew; four grandchildren, Aaron Buff, Mindy Miles, William Buff and Tyler Fife; six great-grandchildren, Darien, Conley, Jaustin, Alan, Air’n and Avery K.

Porky was loved by many. The memories made with family and friends will be treasured forever. He will be forever missed.

A Memorial Service is scheduled at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Allen Schneider officiating. The family has entrusted the services to Green Hill Funeral Home. 918-224-2312/www.greenhillok.com
