Sapulpa, Bristow and Mounds win at Thursday night football games, see who plays tonight

Sapulpa had their first win of the season when they beat Ponca City at home by a score of 42-14.

Even though Ponca City drew first blood, Sapulpa quickly settled up with a 25-yard rushing TD from Freshman Te’zohn Taft.

Sophmore Eli Williams had a couple of standout moments, first  a 5 Yd Rushing TD that put Sapulpa in the lead, and then with a 64 Yd pass to Senior Gerquan Sanders, bringing the total to 7-20, Sapulpa.

Meanwhile, Ponca City wouldn’t score again for almost the entire game.

Late into the 2nd quarter, Sapulpa intercepts a Ponca City pass and has the ball on their own 14-yard line. They were unable to pull another touchdown before the halftime horn sounded.

3rd quarter started with a bang  as No. 6 Sophmore Marcus Esparza scored with a 3 Yd Rushing TD, bringing Sapulpa to 27. Good went to better when Senior Stanley White intercepts a Ponca City pass with 5 minutes to go. That leads to Sanders again running it in 10 yards for a TD.

4th quarter started with as much fanfare as the previous when Marcus Esparza intercepted and scored with a 40-yard return. Ponca City 7, Sapulpa 41.

Sophmore Kaivon Mortazavi rounded out each TD with a kick, scoring a total of 6 points.

Ponca City finally scored again about halfway into the 4th, bringing their total to 14 against Sapulpa’s 42.

Sapulpa’s season is now at 1 and 7. They’ll be playing at Muskogee on October 27th at 7pm.

Other Thursday Night Scores and Friday Night Games

The Bristow varsity football team won Thursday’s home conference game against Checotah by a score of 50-19. Bristow will play Beggs at home on Friday, October 27 at 7:00pm.

Depew will play Davenport at home on Friday Night at 7:30pm

Drumright will play Crescent, OK at Crescent on Friday Night at 7:00pm

Kiefer had a bye week this week. They’ll play Hominy at home on Friday,  October 27 at 7:00pm.

Liberty played Hominy on Thursday, October 19th, but the score has not yet been reported. (Send the final score to news@sapulpatimes.com) Liberty will play Mounds at Mounds on Friday, October 27 at 7:00pm.

Mannford lost to Sperry on October 19th, 48 – 12. They’ll play again on the last scheduled game of their season at Berryhill, on November 3rd at 7:00pm.

Mounds won Thursday’s home conference game against Summit Christian Academy by a score of 34-13. They’ll play at Liberty on October 27th at 7pm.
