Kiefer Trojans hold on to win it in a tough game against Depew

The Kiefer Trojans came away with a win on Wednesday in a hard-fought game against the Depew Hornets. The final score was 54 to 48.

In the first quarter, Depew came out strong, commanding a 15 to 10 lead against the Trojans, with the help of several 3 point shots by Hornet Tanner Hunt.

In the second quarter, the Trojans got their second wind, catching up from their first quarter, and commanding a 3 point lead, until a buzzer shot at the half from Tanner Hunt tied the game up going into the half. Kole Harbison provided a strong showing and contributed 10 points to the deficit, with T. Hoover scoring an additional 5 points as well.

The score was 30 to 30 at halftime.

The Hornets came out in the third quarter strong, showing the Trojans that they were not going away, scoring 11 points to Kiefer’s 9 points. Kole Harbison continued to attack the basket with 5 points, and M. Gilmore contributing an additional 4 points for the Trojans. The score, going into the fourth quarter, was Depew 41, Kiefer 39.

_mg_3354In the fourth quarter, it ended up all coming down to free throws. For each point one team made, the other answered it almost immediately. In the final 30 seconds of the game, Depew had to foul in hopes to regain possession of the ball. Kiefer’s Gibby Johnson was the chosen one to be fouled, made his two free throws, and advancing the Trojans to a 5 point lead. Depew immediately ran the ball and scored, bringing the lead back down to 3 points. Gibby Johnson was fouled again, and again responded by making his two free throws, putting the Trojans back to a more comfortable lead with 8 seconds left.
