Kellyville grassfires suspected to be arson, Fire Department looking for suspects

When two grass fires in Kellyville sprang up just hours apart, Kellyville Fire Chief Matt Staiger thought it was suspicious.

After seeing where they had began, and how they had spread, that suspicion proved a little more solid, according to a story posted on KTUL yesterday.

“In my opinion, someone is intentionally setting these fires,” said Staiger.

Kellyville runs a volunteer fire department, so the firefighters have enough to do between full-time jobs and fighting legitimate accidental fires without having to worry about the fires that are being started intentionally.

“They’ve already worked two or three fires, then they’re back in bed getting some rest,” said Staiger. “Then to get called out on a fire that someone intentionally set, it’s very frustrating.”

Staiger said they don’t have much to go on right now, but they’re hoping someone out there knows something and will help put a stop to this before someone gets hurt.
