For the first time in recent history and possibly forever, the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce is hosting holiday carriage rides for the community and surrounding areas.

“We are extremely pleased to be offering carriage rides to the fine people of Glenpool and surrounding area,” said Sydney Bland, executive director of the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce. “The nippy weather makes the adventure even more memorable and enjoyable.”

Two chamber members serve as sponsors for the rides. Grandview Heights Luxury Apartments hosted last week’s rides, and American Ts will sponsor Wednesday night’s rides.

“We are fortunate to have two members step up and sponsor the carriage rides,” Bland said. “It’s another way of giving back to the community. It is also important to me for anyone who wishes to ride, to be able to ride.”

Rides are $5 each for those 4-years-old and older, with children 3 and under riding for free, or four non-perishable food items in lieu of $5.

According to Bland, carriage proprietor Kathy Vincent, co-owner of Ava K’s Carriage Service has been extremely easy to work with.

“Kathy has been delightfully accommodating,” Bland said. “She has been helpful, has offered suggestions and has been dependable.”

Kathy and Paul Vincent supply a horse, which stands a towering 19 1/2 hands high; a twinkle-lit carriage; and more woolen blankets than anyone could need.

“I went on the first ride of the season last week and was pleasantly surprised by how warm it was in the carriage,” Bland said. “It was such a joy.”

Rides will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Glenpool Conference Center. Dress warmly; blankets provided.

Sponsor American Ts will be providing hot drinks and other give-aways during the event. No reservations needed.
